PMS 2023 Year-End Meeting: Coach Houston Nutt

Simmons Bank

Simmons Bank Arena (formerly known as the Verizon Arena and Alltel Arena) is an 18,000-seat multi-purpose arena in North Little Rock, Arkansas, located directly across the Arkansas River from downtown Little Rock. The arena opened in October 1999 and was beginning to show signs of aesthetic fatigue. As the main entertainment venue in central Arkansas the new partnership between Simmons Bank and county officials concluded that a facelift was necessary to bring the arena up to the standards of excellence the sponsorship required. The facility is publicly owned by the Multi-Purpose Civic Center Facilities Board of Pulaski County.

First Security Amphiteather

The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, along with the Downtown Little Rock Partnership dedicated the new First Security Amphitheater in May of 2013.

The goal of the project was to upgrade the existing canvas design with new aesthetics that would blend to the other structures in the River Market District.

The new design consisted of a radius 2:16, Kynar 24 gauge standing seam roof panel. The certified installation would provide the desired durability. The life cycle cost of the metal roof would exceed the use of the structure in comparison to alternative systems.

Through the use of the DoD Environmental Security Technologies Certification Program (ESTCP) the military is providing grants to industry in order to demonstrate novel technologies, products and systems aimed at meeting their energy and water conservation goals.

One such ESTCP grant was awarded in 2010 to a team of metal construction industry leading companies and the Metal Construction Association. The grant of approximately $1 million is being used to demonstrate a retrofit metal roof system with integrated renewable energy technologies that showcases a holistic assembly of six different roofing system components.

The project targeted retrofitting a metal roof on a 10,000 sq ft Security Forces building on the Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas. Installation of the retrofit project, along with a data acquisition system from DOE’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, was completed in June 2012. The ESTCP grant was awarded because it is so unique, in that, it is the only retrofit metal roofing system integrating other energy saving technologies to form a building envelope.
